President Ghani rejected the resignation of Defence Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami and Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak, as well as Masoom Stanekzai, the head of the National Directorate of Security.
The resignations of the three top security chiefs were submitted on Saturday hours after National Security Adviser Hanif Atmar quit.

Government spokesman Haroon Chakansuri said in a statement that president Ghani had asked the three officials to continue with their duties and “work toward the betterment of the security situation” while accepted M. Hanif Atmar’s resignation and appointed Hamdullah Muhib as the new adviser to the country’s national security council.
President Ghani instead instructed them to find ways to prevent fresh attacks by militant groups.

Following the recent Taliban conflict with security forces in Ghazni; some media outlets have reported that president Ghani has called on the senior security officials, including the national security adviser to step down.
